Effective Ponds Charlotte Nc Algae Treatment

By Marie Cox

A pond, whether it be a fish pond or just an ornamental one will not be complete with the invasion of pond algae one way or the other. This quandary has been a part of pond keeping ever since the world begun. Due to this, there are a lot of treatments being created to get rid of these ponds charlotte nc parasites.

Fortunately, there are some options available for the pond owner that can combat algae problems. They vary regarding how they work. Some are directly targeted to the pond algae itself and are designed to kill it, either through contact, or some disruption in it's life cycle. Other products work in a more indirect way and are designed to either balance the pond's ecosystem out, and thereby reduce the chance that algae have to grow, or they work to limit it's support system and make it harder for it to prosper.

Over the years one of the more widely used applications would be chemical algaecides. These work to directly kill the algae. Many of these products contain a copper derivative and are found in either liquid or granular form. They can kill algae blooms quickly and efficiently but they do need to be used with caution.

Algaecides must be applied carefully, and in cases where the pond has fish, and the algae are quite heavy and widespread, the chemical should only be used to knock down segments of the algae mass, and not all of it at once. If a lot of algae is killed off quickly in a pond, there is a chance that you can pull most of the oxygen out of the pond and this can harm the fish. Be sure to work in segments if you decide to use an algaecide to kill the algae.

There are few measures needed to be taken to prevent algae from continuously overtaking the pond. Aside from the treatments readily available, you can also do simple things for your pond. These include the avoidance of over feeding the fish in the pond. Through the over fed fish, more wastes are produced. And if more wastes are present in the pond, more nutrients will be consumed by algae thus quick reproduction.

Luckily it cannot do any harm to humans. A further positive feature of UV filters is that they have no negative effect on the so-called good type of algae that usually grow on the liner of a pond.

As mentioned earlier, the sunlight that hits and enters the pond aids the rapid growth of algae. Therefore it should be controlled or at least put to a minimum level. If in case your pond has been put in an area in the garden where there isn't enough shade, try to at least dye the pond water darker to help prevent sunlight from penetrating the pond.

As time goes on, there are sure to be more interesting developments in algae control devices and solutions. There may even be a time when that ugly stinky green algae in your pond are worth something. Bio-fuel makers have been looking at algae as a natural fuel source so wouldn't it be interesting to know that you may have your little oil well in your backyard.
