Tree Maintenance In San Jose

By Andrew Cox

Over time, having trees around the home has become more and more rare due to population increase and the need to use land for construction of living places. This aside, it still is important to have trees cared for so that they remain healthy and with vigor. There are various benefits of planting trees in the home and thus the importance of maintenance. When considering tree maintenance in San Jose there are a number of aspects involved.

Watering is one of the main things that need to be done on a regular basis. Trees tend to need watering most during their initial stages, that is, when they are in the seedling stage as they start to grow. What most people fail to understand is that trees will still need to be watered even after they are fully grown, but not as much. During late spring to autumn, the annual growing period, they need to be watered well.

Mulching should be done in the early stages of growth. It is the practice which prevents plants from losing a lot of moisture which is useful to their growth. Ideally, mulches should be laid 2 or 4 inches deep so that the roots are well covered. The tree trunk should not be fully covered. There needs to be some inches left out so that there is no decay. In the event that mulch is too thick, it prevents exchange of gases.

Fertilization is an important aspect when it comes to maintaining trees. This is mostly the case for newly planted trees because conditions of the coil might not be favorable for them. There are plants that will require more or less nutrients depending on the condition of the soil. This means the nutrients have to be provided artificially. There is the choice of green options such as compost or store-bought options. While compost is great, it takes some time to create.

Before fertilizers are used for trees, the pH level of the soil should be checked. The organic content needs to be checked too. There are testing kits that are used for this purpose and help in providing accurate values. In the case of plants that are mature, the soil should still be tested but every once in a while to confirm its condition. Arborists are the professionals to do the work.

The root collar refers to the part of the tree where it meets the stem or trunk. It is likely to be encircled by roots in case no proper techniques of planting are used. It is a common experience to experience strangling if you do not use the right methods. There should be regular checks on trees and loosening of soil found at the base.

Just as watering and fertilization, it is important to have trees pruned. This should start when they are still young. The removal of diseased and dead trees helps to keep the others healthy. Furthermore, it will enhance safety because there will be few incidences if any of fallen tree branches.

Tree maintenance can be very well done by professionals. They know the various needs of trees and how to deal with them. It is what ensures the work is done to the best quality.
